Andrew Forsyth helped to set up the Skinner Silk Mill established 1853 by William Skinner in Williamsburg (Skinnerville) MA. The silk industry in the Northampton area, with several mills, was a mainstay of the local economy and the largest employer. In 1860 the Skinner mill employed 40-50 workers, and in 1874 employed 120 operatives when a millriver flood washed away the mill.
